About Project

Marsabit Water Supply Infrastructure Project – Lot 1 is a transformative water infrastructure
initiative implemented by Tana Water Works Development Agency (TWWDA) under the Kenya
Towns Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation Program. The project was financed by the
Government of Kenya and the African Development Bank (AfDB) to improve access to safe,
reliable and sustainable water services in Marsabit Town and its surrounding areas.
Completed in July 2022, the project involved:

 Construction of the new Bakuli IV Dam,

 Expansion of the water treatment facilities,

 Installation of transmission and distribution pipelines,

 Construction of water storage tanks,

 Construction of a modern office block for Marsabit Water and Sewerage Company
(MARWASCO).

 Provision of operational equipment to strengthen MARWASCO’s service delivery.

The project has significantly enhanced the reliability and capacity of Marsabit's water supply
system, benefiting approximately 15,000 residents, public institutions and learning facilities,
with the infrastructure designed to ultimately serve up to 30,000 people through future network
expansion and last-mile connectivity. It has strengthened water security, supported socio-
economic development, and improved the resilience of water services in Marsabit Town.
