About Project
Mbeere South Water Supply Project – Lot 1: Kamburu Dam Water Supply is a flagship
Government of Kenya-funded initiative being implemented by Tana Water Works Development
Agency (TWWDA) to enhance access to safe, reliable and sustainable water services in Mbeere
South Sub-County, Embu County.
The project commenced in August 2024 and comprises:
Installation of a new floating intake system with four high-capacity pumps at Kamburu
Dam.
Construction of a 10,000 m³/day conventional water treatment plant.
Installation of raw water and treated water transmission pipelines.
Construction of a 500 m³ booster/storage tank at Mwanyari A Hill.
Development of over 13 kilometres of water distribution pipelines to serve surrounding
communities.
Construction is progressing well, with works advancing in line with the implementation
programme. Upon completion, the project will significantly improve access to clean and safe
water for domestic use while also supporting irrigation and socio-economic development across
the Mbeere South area.
