Tetu Aguthi Water Supply Project

Tetu Aguthi Water Supply Project is a flagship water infrastructure project being implemented by
Tana Water Works Development Agency (TWWDA) to address water shortages in Tetu East and
Tetu West Sub-Counties of Nyeri County. Financed by the Government of Kenya, the project
aims to improve access to safe, reliable and sustainable potable water for residents while
strengthening the capacity of the Water Service Provider -TEAWASCO, to meet the growing
demand for water services.
The project comprises:

 Construction of a new intake on River Magura,

 A 10,000 cubic metres per day conventional water treatment plant,

 Installation of 16.4 kilometres of raw water gravity mains,

 Replacement of the aging Zaina–Muthua-Ini asbestos pipeline with a modern HDPE
pipeline,

 Construction of three break pressure tanks.

Significant progress has been recorded in the replacement of the Zaina–Muthua-Ini pipeline and
ongoing construction of key treatment works. Upon completion, the project is expected to
provide clean and safe drinking water to approximately 108,000 residents, improving
livelihoods, supporting socio-economic development, and contributing to sustainable water
service delivery in Nyeri County.
